The age old question wether you should wear underwear or not under your swim trunks have been debated for as long as swim trunks have been around. And the answer is kind of boring: it depends on your personal preference.
If you should wear underwear under your swim trunks depends on 2 things: what type of shorts do you have and you personal preferences. Swim shorts with netting usually means that you are not wearing anything under while it’s very common that you wear underwear under a pair of board shorts.

All runners and cyclists know that you need truly comfortable underwear when doing either biking or running. Swim trunks are not made with these exercises in mind and therefore might not be as comfortable.
These are two examples of then swim trunks might not be a good choice when working out. However, if you are just working out and doing biceps curls in between beach sessions you are most likely just as comfortable in your swim trunks as in any other activewear.
